Counting Down

Into December we go and the count down to the concerts.

Thanks for the A.G.M. last week, we are set up for another year. We had a useful sing but we have more work to do over the next two Fridays.

This week we are Woodborough, now our permanent home. We will concentrate on the following:

SheetI wonder as I wander
SheetO Magnum Mysterium
SheetPachelbel/First Noel
SheetWith wondering awe
SheetCoventry Carol
CC1 142Shepherd’s Farewell
SheetTwelve Days of Christmas
CC1 150Torches
CC1 2Away in a manger

Mary is bringing the “proper” copies of The First Noel. If there is anything accompanied not on the above list that you feel needs a look at let me know. Next Friday (10th) will be the final rehearsal of the unaccompanied items as we will only have time for the accompanied pieces at Newstead pre-concert.

Those singing carols at Newstead on Sunday please be there in time to sing at 1:00. Dress warmly, bring all the Christmas music to be on the safe side. We will base ourselves in the Chapel, where we can space ourselves out appropriately. If the weather is dry we might do a set outside, as we did last year. The plan is to do three sets at 1:00, 1:45 and 2:30 (approximate times). Please yourselves whether you bring a stand or not.

Tickets are nearly sold out for the 12th December, which is good news. We’ll have look at the space on Sunday and discuss how we might set it out for maximum safety. Anyone desperate to hear us will have to come to Long Bennington on 18th December. There is a rehearsal (at Wodborough) on 17th December to prepare for Long Bennington. The programme will be the same as at Newstead except that we won’t do I wonder as I wander or The First Noel. Nancy has very kindly agreed to play all the accompaniments – hence the need for a rehearsal. We will meet at 3 pm on 18th December for a short warm-up for a 4:00 start.

The situation has become less stable with the new variant; we will need to be vigilant and react accordingly. At the moment everything is going ahead as planned.

See you on Friday.
